An 11-year-old girl has beaten a field of adult songwriters in a competition.
Sadie Mustoe, of Belgrave Heights, wrote and performed three songs for the Maldon Folk Festival songwriting competition, making her the youngest to win the prize. "
“I really was not expecting to win because there were a lot of adults who entered so it was shocking and surprising,” Sadie said.
“But I write songs all the time and will be releasing my first album at the festival, too.”
Sadie plays piano, violin, and ukulele, and said Taylor Swift was her idol.
Sadie has been writing her own music for four years. Both her parents are musicians.
Maldon Folk Festival director Pam Lyons said Sadie performed with the self-assurance and talent of an adult performer.
